DES first graders celebrated Earth Day in a big way!! Students began the day by rotating classes to learn about different ways we can help our earth.  They learned about recycling by creating an art project with newspaper and paper rolls, creating bird feeders from peanut butter to help care for our animals, the movement of the wind by making wind socks and how to make a habitat in our own back yards and making an earth puppet.  Students really enjoyed all the actities.. one child said "WOW look at all the things I have to take home!"  The day was topped off by having a Ms. Mary Ball a seasoned gardener come and speak with them about how to make a compost and plant a bean plant.  Students took the plants home to watch them grow at thier house!  It was a great day and beautiful weather for an EARTH DAY CELEBRATION!!
