Miss Tiffany

Hi everyone! My name is Mrs. Tiffany Nix.

I am a first generation college student and I have a B.S. in Child Psychology from ETSU.  After graduation I worked as a residential advisor for the ETSU Upward Bound program the following summer.  This is a program that allows first generation/low socioeconomic high school students live on campus for a month taking college-like courses.  This program is extra special to me because I was in the program in high school and it encouraged me to attend college. I taught classes and ran small groups during my time there. This job led me to decide to pursue counseling.

I went on to attend Carson-Newman University where I obtained a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an EdS in Professional School Counseling.  During my time there I interned at Patriot Academy, Health Connect America, a private practice, Happy Valley High School, and A.L. Lotts Elementary.  I also worked as a graduate assistant in the graduate studies in counseling department. I was fortunte to work at Happy Valley High School as a Niswonger CARE advisor which meant that I was able to help Seniors/Juniors prepare for college.  I also had the opportunity to present at conferences such as the Tennessee Counseling Association state conference in Nashville and the West Tennessee Counseling Association Conference in Memphis.

When I first started graduate school I thought I only wanted to do private practice counseling, but a year into the program I realized that school counseling would also be an interest of mine.  I then started the dual degree track so that I could have the option to do both. I convinced myself that high school is where I should be;however, my internship at A.L. Lotts with an amazing supervisor (shoutout to Laura Filtness) showed me that elementary was the place for me.

I am so gratefult to be the counselor at DES and I feel that my journey has led me to here!
